LaurenceA hotel dedicated to events
Located at the foot of the Pyramids (direct access with your tickets possible by golf cart through the hotel's concierge)
Charming and attentive staff.
Good communication by email before my trip (organization).
Very beautiful, well-maintained garden (partially obscured by event setup)
Very large and beautiful pool (but noisy on the street side, not the pyramids side)
Hotel block with 400 rooms (looks nicer at night, less like a 'block of buildings')
Far from a charming hotel, only visited for its location.
Let's be clear, Marriott prioritized events over travelers:
4 nights/4 days, not a single day where we could enjoy the view at breakfast facing the pyramids (beautiful view advertised on their website, Instagram...)
Fake vegetation barrier concealing the chaos of setting up and dismantling stands, tables, columns, supports for events (2 weddings, company's 50th anniversary...)
See photo (noise of screwing, unscrewing, hammering... added to the experience).
Despite the inconveniences, room prices remain high (room facing the garden, no view of the pyramids, booked for 400€ over 6 months in advance and 800€ a week before, excessively expensive for a hotel in Cairo with such inconveniences.
Breakfast is very abundant but lacking in quality (stale pastries, some dishes lacking taste).
If you dine at the 139 Pavilion restaurant in the evening, the music is way too loud, especially when there's singing, which is even worse. Softer music during dinner would be more appropriate (in our opinion).
Unluckily, we also had construction work just under our window (for a small pathway through the lawn).
No compensation offered considering all these inconveniences.
The splendor and elegance of the Mena House seem to belong to the past.
