Complete disappointment!!!

No breakfast. Location is fine, lots of cafes and grocery stores nearby. The kitchen is equipped with the necessary items. There are places to go for a walk. Maria (the housekeeper) was the only person who helped solve problems as much as she could!

The room did not match the one stated during booking. We found out the photo of the room and how it will be only upon check-in. The host did not solve any problems at all. The windows face a wall, everything is frosted from the top, complete lack of fresh air. Unclear what time of day outside the window, as there is no light. A small bathroom, everything is old. Grayish-white sheets. Room was heated by the sewage canal for 3 days, one night they sent to stay in another hotel. Only after contacting Booking we managed to move to another hotel for the last 2 days.

Superb

Great value for the price

Super location, close to public transportation, balcony with a view, washing machine, clothes and hair dryer, air conditioning and heating, basically everything we needed was there

We could hear all neighbors' conversations and movements, bathroom window not closing properly and without any curtain, weak water pressure in the shower, and if someone else in the building was using the bathroom at the same time - it disappears completely, coffee maker - probably after previous guests - with moldy grounds inside, bed linen and towels not properly washed, sofa and bed worn out and sinking

Exceptional

We spent fifteen days in this hotel room and couldn't be happier with the location, the room, and the host.

After five visits to Istanbul, I consider Balat one of the best hotel room bases for exploring the city. It's conveniently located near a ferry (essential for exploring Istanbul), buses, and a tramline. There are interesting attractions within walking distance, and it provides a relaxing mix of modern and traditional, with the charmingly conservative districts of Çarşamba and Fatih nearby.

The hotel room on the top floor with a balcony was spacious for two people, featuring a decently sized bedroom and living area (a relief considering the abundance of cramped accommodations), a good shower in a bathroom with proper ventilation (which is not always guaranteed in this city), and beautiful wooden floors. The building had been recently renovated and consists of only three rooms, one per floor.

The host, Mehmet, is a well-travelled polyglot who is extremely hospitable and helped us resolve a booking problem.

If this hotel room is available and you are able to climb two flights of stairs without difficulty, do not hesitate to book it - you will not be disappointed.

The sofa could be upgraded.
