A cautionary tale of no light at the Lighthouse.
The staff managing this establishment were friendly and welcoming.
We encountered an issue at this premises, possibly related to its age rather than anything else.
During the second night of our 4-night stay, the fuse in our room kept blowing, despite working fine the first night with devices charging alongside the air conditioner. We needed to wake up very early the next morning for a bus trip to Gallipoli. With no electricity in our room, we had to shower by candlelight provided by another guest (internal bathroom had no lights). We were unable to charge our devices and had to wait for an electrician to assess the situation. He arrived around 10:45pm, disconnected the aircon, and then left. We had to sleep in a hot room at around 29°C, shared by our family of four. Insects attacked us during the night as we had left a window open for ventilation. Although another room was offered, it only accommodated 3 people and I didn't want to leave my 14-year-old alone in a room on his second night in Istanbul (he had fallen asleep after sightseeing).
On the third night, three of us stayed in Çannukkale, leaving our daughter to wait all day until 9:30pm for the electrician to return and fix the electricity. He left at 11pm, leaving behind his electrical tools scattered across the 3 beds in the room. This situation caused a serious problem for our daughter, who has a major head injury and needs plenty of rest after a long flight (which is why she stayed in Istanbul while we visited Gallipoli and Troy).
I understand that this issue was beyond the control of the host, and given that it was summer, they may not have had many alternatives to offer. Nevertheless, they seemed content to leave us in an unacceptable situation instead of providing a refund or arranging a nearby relocation. It was also unsettling that they thought it was acceptable to stay next to the switchboard and reset the circuit breaker each time it tripped while we were trying to shower. We had nothing plugged in our room, yet the circuit kept tripping - a potential fire hazard that worried us.
